Start of the Vermont Harvest Season!
Blake Hill Farm is nestled in the mountains in southern Vermont. Winters are beautiful but long and brutally cold with abundant snow. As much as I love the snowy magic of a Vermont winter, as soon as the New Year turns I cannot wait for the start of the harvest season in Vermont. And, at long last, here it is – commencing with hundreds of pounds of freshly picked spring rhubarb from our own garden and other local farms. Bright and beautifully red stalked rhubarb. Spring is finally here.
Our Gooseberry bushes did well last year too and this year they are in full flower promising a wonderful harvest. We have the Invictus variety, which are the larger plump and juicy variety. Check out our website soon for new seasonal preserves. We have a gorgeous gooseberry preserve coming out soon. Shssssh ! Secret for now !!
After rhubarb season, strawberries are next. We will be heading off to other local farms such as Duttons in Newfane and Nourse Farms just across the border in Mass for some of the best freshly picked strawberries around.
Roll on harvest season, but please don’t rush past too quickly!
We will keep you posted as the season progresses.
